I spent the greater part of my adult life struggling with my weight. Truly, I had no idea what I was doing and thought I just needed to "eat less." I'd lose a few pounds, but then end up gaining it right back.
Then, I discovered cardio. Group fitness, calorie restriction and LOTS of running and cycling. Yes, it helped me to lose weight, and I liked the exercise aspect so much that I became a group fitness instructor and running training program group leader.
BUT - I constantly felt like I was in a cycle of restricting until I could "eat normally" again. Obviously, this was not sustainable. Not only that, but I wanted to look STRONG. I didn't understand why that wasn't happening. I lifted weights in group fitness...why wasn't my body looking the way I wanted it to? Why wasn't I "toned" like I wanted to be?
When I was 37, I saw a coach on Instagram who was just a few years older than me and she looked SO STRONG! I immediately followed her page, and began learning about lifting heavy weight with intention, eating protein, and fueling my body the right way. I signed up for her coaching program and finally started seeing the results I wanted. This lit a fire under me - I wanted to learn everything I could about building muscle, getting stronger, and building habits that would set me up to be strong, confident, and capable for life. My eating habits went from cycles of restriction and gaining the weight back, to fueling my body - eating in a way that was sustainable, and still being able to change my body composition.
I worked with a few more coaches, because I wanted to learn all I could, and began tailoring my group fitness classes to clients who wanted to learn how to move weight with proper form. I eventually decided to upgrade my certification from fitness instructor to Personal Trainer and Certified Nutrition Specialist.
Now I'm stronger and more confident than I've ever been, and I get to help others on their journeys. I want my clients to be empowered as I am. I want them to be knowledgeable, confident, strong, and build lasting changes that will help them to be active, capable, and fulfilled well into old age.
Simple habits. Strong Results. Let's do this.
